A Summer in Boujad
For more than 5,000 years, shepherds have lived in the mountains known as Picos de Europa. The Mier Espina brothers, who have been shepherds since they were 13, continue considering this place their home. Principality of Asturias, north to Spain. Manolo and Fernando Mier Espina have spent their lifelong working as shepherds. No free days, no vacations, only caring the herd of different animals (sheep, cows, chicken...) and moving it back and forward from the town to the cabins in the mountains, in an almost full isolation. Living memory of a distant past and of an era largely left behind, The Skin of the Wolf (2017)'s director Samu Fuentes delves into the memories and experiences of the two elderly men who continue working in the same profession with the same passion with which they started when they were just children. A travel not only by the impressive corners and landscapes of the Picos de Europa mountain range, but an occupation in danger to vanish that for centuries it ruled the life of the rural areas of Asturias. —Chockys
