But now, as a result of years of abuse, Mrs Kokovikou refusing to be his slave anymore, decides to make a change for the better and start caring for herself too. Of course, this abrupt change in Eleni's personality and behaviour infuriates her surprised husband, who will have no other choice but to take some really drastic measures. —Nick Riganas Antonis (Anthony) Kokovikos is a relatively high-ranking civil servant at a government ministry. For a decade, he shares a house with his long-term girlfriend Eleni (Helen) with no apparent intention to marry her. He is usually rather strict and demanding in his treatment of Eleni, who behaves submissively to please him. Eleni is mistreated by female neighbors who view her as a "kept woman". Following the death of a close friend of Antonis, he starts worrying about Eleni's fate in case of his own early death. She would only be entitled to his pension if they were legally married. Antonis eventually proposes marriage. On their wedding day, Eleni behaves assertively for the first time. She demands respect from Antonis, reminding him that she is his wife and not his servant. Antonis immediately demands a divorce, with their marriage lasting for less than a day. Antonis' formerly close friends testify in favor of Eleni during the legal proceedings, blaming Antonis for mistreating her. The couple move out of their house and go their separate ways. A few years later, Antonis has received a further promotion. He has no romantic attachments, and no remaining friends. He is notified that his former house is about to be demolished, and he visits the decayed building to reminisce about his past. He finally regrets his decisions. He meets Eleni within the house, who is also reminiscing. She is also lonely. After surviving an accident caused by the demolition crew, the couple decide to restart their relationship. —Dimos I
