In 1940s Canaan Desam, farmer George flees a cholera and smallpox outbreak with his wife Alice and their two children, finding refuge in a mountainside cave with a stranger's help. Alice later falls fatally ill and dies back in their homeland. Years on, Belgian missionary Fr. John Baptist OCD hears George's story and climbs the mountain to erect a wooden cross at its peak, later replacing it with a five-foot iron cross. The site becomes a revered pilgrimage spot, drawing lakhs of devotees and countless miracles.
