''Auto'' tells the story of Sathya, an academic and romantic failure, who learns that howsoever one tries to change the course of life, it only meanders into all that it has to. On being left by his fiance, Sandhya, his parents get him married to another woman. Two years into marriage, the wife leaves Sathya because he begins to weaken financially. She leaves their daughter with Sathya, for whom things take a turn for the worse when he loses his parents to a road accident. With only his daughter, and no house, he now is supported by a social worker, who gives him an auto rickshaw to drive, and earn from. This is when Janhavi, Sathya's secret admirer from college re-enters his life, and with her comes normalcy and stability.
