The Skier is a poetic documentary dialogue between son and his father about top level sport, love and sacrifice. The director, Marek Bures, spent 9 years following a career of Jan Nmec, a legend of grass skiing that devoted his life to non-Olympic sport which is by far not in the center of media business interest. In early '90s, Jan was one of the biggest Czech talents in alpine skiing. Due to lack of money, he was looking for a full year training alternative to expensive trips to Alps. Now 14-time-World Champion in grass skiing, he combines talent, desire for perfection and stubbornness with an enormous desire for winning to which he sacrificed everything including his health. A swan song of his just finished career brings the question of what is the value of the World Champion medals that are now going down with dust.
