Bombay Boys
Three brash Indian kids from Sydney, London and New York arrive into Bombay fro the first time - expecting to find snake charmers and elephants. What they find instead is a modern thriving metropolis - that seems hell bent on taking them all down and sending them back home. They are bundled together in the same taxi heading to Colaba - so they introduce themselves and decide to stick together in order not to get ripped off. In their first misadventure - they try to find an apartment to rent - but fail miserably. Nobody seems to want to rent an apartment to three non residents. Finally Xerxes strikes up a friendship with a kind Parsi landlord, who lets them sublet his place. Once settled - the three young men go about their adventures - discovering themselves and the city of Bombay in the process. Krishna Sahni tries to make it as a down on his luck actor in big bad Bollywood. He meets the Don Mastana who offers him a role in his movie - which Krishna rejects, but soon finds that he is unable to do so as the Don wields pressure. The Don needs to lose some money fast and plans to make a terrible movie and is excited to hire a bad actor like Krishna to turn out a flop film. Meanwhile, Xerxes Mistry gets wrapped up in finding his true love - music. In so doing - he gets to discover his real identity as Bombay helps him to find himself. He tries to find true love in the wrong places. Ricardo Fernandes does his best to search for his missing brother but ends up falling for the Don Mastana's Moll - Dolly. Together they form a clandestine relationship - doomed for disaster as the Don is extremely possessive. When Mastana finds out about this relationship - he is furious and seeks redemption and revenge. He summons all three young men to his chambers and gives them an ultimatum. All manner of travails befall the three young men as India throws up surprises at every corner. This is a satirical urban fable, with modern music. It is a tale about how we perceive India and what we end up actually experiencing, especially as non resident Indians, who come to India for the first time. A fast ride - witty, and commercially minded. This is meant to be an entertaining tale, full of dark humour and a new approach to independent Indian filmmaking. Bombay Boys is also considered a musical - with chart busting top hits such as the now cultish track Mumbhai.
