Having rented Il Rosaio on Capri to write the screenplay for The Third Man, Graham Greene uses the cheque Alexander Korda paid him to buy the house and spends much of the next 40 years living and writing there. He is therefore perfectly placed to not only conduct his own affairs with first Catherine Walston (on which The End Of The Affair is based) and then Yvonne Cloetta but observe others like Orson Welles, Richard Burton and Liz Taylor, Brigitte Bardot, Jean-Luc Godard, Jackie Kennedy (Onassis) and Sophia Loren at play. —Paul Wiffen Capri has always seen illicit behaviour since Tiberius isolated himself there.
