Coming to Terms
The citizens of Baja California Sur, Mexico, rise to oppose and defeat an open-pit gold mine that threatens their water supply, The open-pit gold mine projected to be installed in the Sierra de la Laguna of Baja California Sur sparked a strong public mobilization against it during the summer of 2014. This project, now called Los Cardones, is the latest incarnation of the attempt of mining interests to exploit the metals that lie under the drinking water source of half a million inhabitants. Every time the project has been presented, the citizen rejection has been forceful. In July 2014, SEMARNAT gave the green light to the project again and immediately the citizen opposition was activated. A Drop of Life tells the chronicle of the resistance, accompanied by testimonies from experts in the field, activists and residents of the region who join their voices to protect the natural resources and way of life of Baja California Sur. The Todos Santos Film Festival and the Leonardo Perel Film School are proud to present this documentary as their contribution to the defense of water and life of the Baja Californians.
