Cross Bearer
In March of 1997 Loomis Fargo & Company was robbed of about $18 million by a company security guard Philip Johnson. This gives Steve Eugene Chambers (Owen Wilson) and Kelly Campbell (Kristen Wiig) the idea to also rob Loomis. They involve Loomis Fargo armored car driver David Scott Ghantt (Zach Galifianakis). David is 40 years old, and has had fantasies about being robbed, while he was on one of his cash drop routes. David wanted to show that he could "man-up" when given the chance. David grew up watching spy movies, and imagined himself to be the suave, and smooth ladies' man. David and Kelly work together at Loomis, which is a cash fulfillment firm with a fleet or armor cars used by the firm to transport cash for its clients. David has a crush on Kelly and could not refuse her anything. David is engaged to Jandice (Kate McKinnon), who is not a very nice woman. David and Jandice are about to get married in a few weeks. She forces David to participate in a Pre-wedding photo shoot. Jandice has no passion for David. David is actually the cousin of the guy Jandice was dating originally. That guy died due to snakebite and Jandice met David at his funeral. Kelly meanwhile was seeing Steve, who was Kelly's neighbor from childhood. Kelly is fired from her job for accidentally discharging her firearm inside the armored car base facility. Steve is a petty thief who stole wheelchairs from hospitals. Kelly leads a lonely David on romantically, to the point that he starts to love her and would do anything for her. Steve's plan is to use this to his advantage and convince David to rob Loomis. Steve gets David to meet him at a restaurant but is careful not to reveal himself and asks David to refer to him as Zapeto. David is the only non-manager at Loomis to have keys to the vault. David is initially skeptical of the plan (as the robbery is a federal crime and carries a minimum sentence of 84 months), but eventually gives in when Kelly lures him in with a potential promise that she might go with David to Mexico (where he would have to hide after the robbery). David was also looking for any excuse to get away from Jandice and her mother, as he really did not want to get married to Jandice, but lacked the courage to say so to her face. After some awkward training in preparation for the robbery, the team has David go inside the company's vault and load the vault's entire money supply into the company's van. Before he leaves, David takes out three CCTV tapes but misses one. The next day, David flees to Mexico with $20,000 and takes the cover name "Michael McKinney", which is the name of a friend of Steve's. Steve had McKinney's driver's license, which he forges by pasting David's photo on top of it. He gives Mickenny's birth certificate & driver's license to David to establish his fake identity in Mexico. Steve, meanwhile, takes most of the heist, around $17 million. FBI Special Agent Scanlon (Leslie Jones) and her partner (Jon Daly) take the case, and immediately have David as the prime suspect, but have no idea of Steve's involvement. Steve plans to cut David loose but Kelly thinks it would be wrong to abandon him. In Mexico, David narrowly escapes from the three Interpol agents looking for him, and then calls Kelly about what happened. Unfortunately, he inadvertently learns Steve's name from the ID in a wallet that Kelly gave to him with Mckinney's IDs. Steve then hires the real McKinney (Jason Sudeikis) to find and kill David. He travels to Mexico, and attempts to shoot David, but the gun backfires and David escapes. David phones Kelly and learns that Steve is trying to kill him, and that Steve will not send the money for him as expected. David is then knocked unconscious by McKinney. When David regains consciousness, McKinney is about to kill him but reconsiders upon looking at "McKinney's" birth certificate, thinking that David was born with the same name, in the same place, on the same day; they become friends. David calls Steve, threatening to surrender himself to Interpol if Steve doesn't wire $6 million into his bank account in two days. Kelly is then confronted by Jandice, who, learning of her engagement to David, attacks her. When Steve refuses to wire the money, his two friends kidnap Kelly after her escape from Jandice, and he tells David to get a ticket to South America in exchange for releasing her. At the airport, he meets McKinney, who is returning to the States, but as he bids farewell, He sees Kelly's name written on McKinney's hand (Steve had contracted McKinney to kill Kelly) and realizes she is his next victim. When he tells McKinney she is his girlfriend, McKinney says he can't possibly kill her, and they switch tickets so David can rescue her. At that moment the three Interpol agents attempt to arrest them, but in their enthusiasm, David and McKinney overpower them. While Steve is hosting a party, the FBI puts a wire on one of the party members in an attempt to record Steve's confession. Unbeknownst to them, David sneaks in and rescues Kelly. They escape by stealing Steve's BMW but unfortunately the car is destroyed when they try to smash it through the front gate. Steve catches and assaults him, until David realizes he is near the FBI van with the agents inside (who were there to somehow trick Steve into admitting his own role in the robbery). David tricks Steve into admitting that he was the mastermind of the whole plan, giving the agents enough reason to arrest all of them, including Kelly. David is sentenced to seven years in prison, while Steve serves 11 years. About $2 million of the money is still unaccounted for (which David had hidden in waterproof boxes at the bottom of a shallow lake). Upon David's release, he is picked up by McKinney and they drive to visit Kelly.
