The story revolves around a collective of variety artists. A stolen safety deposit box theft gets all in trouble. On Djurgården in Stockholm we meet the Haglund family of variety shows. Ludde Haglund is lying on the sofa singing Bellman, it is Bellman's Day on July 26. His son Gunnar, whom he has made financial sacrifices to study to become a civil engineer, complains about the noise. But his daughter Betty defends her father. The postman arrives with an important letter. Gunnar has been hired by a Swedish engineering firm in London and will be going over as soon as possible. He doesn't have a new suit, but his sister Betty is adding the money she has saved for a new coat. Gunnar has been recommended to the place by the fairground director Winkler, who has a daughter, Greta, who has fallen in love with Gunnar, something that Winkler disapproves of. He also has a son, Henrik, who is constantly in financial trouble and has forged his father's name on a bill of exchange that he tricked Gunnar into accepting. When the bill is due, he has decided to make a nightly loan from the amusement park cash register, because he knows where the cashier hides the key to the safe. His activities are observed by two scoundrels, the athlete Benson and the worker Pettersson. These two gentlemen intend to take the money themselves, which they also get the opportunity to do when Henrik regrets it and drives out in his car to calm his nerves. When the field is clear, they unlock the safe, take the banknotes that are there and hide them under the floor in an abandoned shed. Unfortunately, they happen to see Gunnar and Greta coming back from a walk and how Gunnar jumps over the fence into the amusement park - Gunnar's intention is to find Henrik and dissuade him from "borrowing", but he does not find him. The cronies use this to cast suspicion on Gunnar for the theft, after which Gunnar is arrested. There are long interrogations with several false testimonies. But Ludde and magic professor Nisse Rosell have their suspicions and during an act of magic they trick Benson into giving him his wallet to see if he is in possession of an unusually large amount of cash. Then they go after Pettersson who admits to the theft and leads them to the banknote stash. Gunnar is released and goes to Gothenburg that same evening to take the boat to London and the new location. He has Greta with him on the journey. At Stockholm Central there is a touching farewell.
