Dossier de ausencias
Far away places places, cultures, faiths, distant existences: Julio, Natanael, Vorn, Alberto, Noa, Kasongo, Roxana... these are some of the protagonists of this story. Nathanael describes his astonishment in front of the immensity of the Iguazu Falls, which he had never seen before, even though he lives just around the corner. Roxana shares her daily life with eight younger brothers, which she has to take care of in Ramnicu Valcea, Romania. And we could get lost in the sad eyes of Kasongo as he talks about his childhood; sent away from his family as a kid, after being accused of sorcery, he was forced to live in the streets of Lubumbashi. Julio Gonzalez tells us his story: rising star of the Paraguay national football team, just signed a big contract in Italy. A tragic accident puts an end to his career as a footballer, but fatally opens up new ways as a man. Back in Paraguay, the gift of becoming a trainer in Cateura, the landfill area of Asunción. The singer-songwriter Achinoam Nini (Noa) with a fascinating enthusiasm helps out distributing football kits for Israeli and Palestinian kids, as well as children of refugees and migrant workers, who are about to play together in Tel Aviv. But these stories are intertwined and melt together throughout a path that, starting from Milan, from Italy, manages to connect distant worlds by using a few terms that are common to all latitudes: the sense of belonging, the hope, the ball, the game. Everyone is equally prepared with the same enthusiasm and the same emotions for the moment where it all converges: the football game that breaks into their lives, their stories, a dream, a project, just a favourable growing experience. Which leaves a positive sign on their path towards adulthood, 'a chance to fight in their lives', as Julio says. This documentary illustrates, twenty years after its foundation, the Inter Campus Project, involving 29 countries in 4 different continents, bringing about 10.000 children, from the most disadvantaged areas of the planet and with an often denied childhood, a unique form of support: happy memories. "El mundo es un balón" (The world is a ball) is written on a wall of an Inter Campus in Colombia; any point can be reached and this game of ours is a simple route to take.
