El hombre de las mariposas
Call him Asian-American OR AmerAsian, post-grad Eric Kymoto is definitely not at peace in this moment of America. Crushed by the disappointment he caused his now-dead father, Eric takes a radical step to try and please his father's spirit: Stealing the identity of a younger AmerAsian killed in a car accident, Eric heads to college again... a different college, where he hopes for a second chance to succeed in baseball, impress the scouts, and get "picked up" by a professional team. But somehow Eric finds himself befriending not only the lovely Amy (this new college's assistant athletic trainer), but also Head Coach Pierce--a man still afflicted by his own son's death in a baseball accident. When their friendliness makes Eric examine his deceptive path, he pulls away, avoids all relationships, and focuses entirely on baseball success. But anti-Asian racism, both from his own team and their opponents, makes Eric's lonely choice harder and harder to maintain--even as he realizes that continuing the dishonesty might get him into the majors, but at the cost of breaking Coach Pierce's heart and pushing the naive Amy into the arms of the very worst kind of guy.
