The Platt family bands together to navigate their new surroundings after a cosmic event transports their suburban neighborhood to someplace unknown. After a mysterious cosmic event rips Oak Street from suburbia and transports their neighborhood to someplace unknown, the Platt family soon discovers that their very survival depends on them sticking together as they navigate their now unrecognizable surroundings. Flowervale, Michigan, 1982. With their marriage silently cracking under pressure and their children noticing the tension, Greg and Denise Platt know they would have ended things long ago if it weren't for their kids. What they and their neighbors don't anticipate is an unprecedented wave of solar flares causing small, unsettling disruptions. As the otherworldly anomaly intensifies, the Platts find themselves whisked away from the modern world, plunged into a familiar yet hostile environment: their once-quiet suburban neighborhood. Now, staying united has never been more crucial. After all, nothing can prepare them for life after the end of Oak Street. In 1982, Denise Platt lives on Oak Street in the suburbs with her husband, Greg, their daughter Audrey, their son Brian, and their dog, Starbuck. The couple's marriage is strained: Denise aspires to become a novelist and is secretly writing a semi-autobiographical story about a woman who wants to leave her family, while Greg, having lost his regular job, works secretly as a pizza delivery driver. Audrey is a gifted student with an interest in cosmology and the work of Carl Sagan. Brian, meanwhile, is interested in Jeannette Christiansen, a new girl in the neighborhood who attends a private school. Brian is also harassed by Kaden Tucker, whose younger brother Brian accidentally injured. Strange phenomena begin occurring around Oak Street. One of Denise's elderly neighbors shows her a mysterious plant that has appeared in her yard. Denise photographs it with a Polaroid camera and takes the photograph to the local library, where the librarian identifies the plant as a species that became extinct millions of years ago. An unidentified pile of animal excrement also appears in another neighbor's yard, while radio broadcasts report increased solar-flare activity. During a storm, Greg returns home from a pizza delivery when a huge white light suddenly engulfs Oak Street, accompanied by a change in atmospheric pressure, and the power goes out. The following morning, the neighborhood has no electricity or running water. Denise and Greg leave their house to search for Starbuck who is missing. They discover that Oak Street is surrounded by a prehistoric landscape, from which dinosaurs emerge and attack the neighborhood, chasing them back home. Audrey concludes that the flashes of light were wormholes that transported the entire neighborhood millions of years into the past. The family decides that their best chance of returning to their own time is to remain sheltered and wait for another wormhole to appear. That night, Denise and Greg argue, and Greg reveals that he has read Denise's manuscript and knows that she wants to leave their family. He also admits that he lost his regular job and has been delivering pizzas because he was ashamed to tell her. Meanwhile, Brian sees Starbuck outside his bedroom window and climbs out of the house to find him, with Audrey following him. Denise and Greg leave in search of their children. Brian encounters Kaden, who attacks him over the injury to his younger brother. Kaden eventually stops after his brother pleads with him and apologizes to Brian. Brian and Audrey continue searching for Starbuck and encounter Jeannette, whose parents have been killed by dinosaurs and they take her with them. Elsewhere, Denise and Greg see a flash of light and follow it to a house containing a wormhole leading back to their own time. However, they refuse to leave without their children, and the wormhole disappears. A herd of dinosaurs then pursue them, forcing them to take shelter inside a car. They eventually escape and reunite with the children. The following morning, Denise and Greg encounter two Camarasaurus mating against the side of a house. Denise photographs Greg standing in front of the dinosaurs with her Polaroid camera. An Allosaurus attacks the group. Denise shoots it with a rifle, but the dinosaur continues pursuing her and traps her on an enclosed porch. Greg attacks it with a sledgehammer, striking its leg and head. As he leans over the porch to help Denise, the Allosaurus recovers and bites through his leg, tearing it off, knocking him to the ground, and eats him. Denise, Audrey, Brian, and Jeannette flee. The group encounters the wormhole again near the librarian's house. The librarian has barricaded herself inside while dinosaurs roam through the building. The group reaches the roof and discovers that the wormhole appears and disappears at regular intervals. Jeannette jumps toward it and disappears. Brian attempts to follow but misses the opening and falls, injuring his leg. A pterosaur grabs him, but Starbuck appears and attacks the creature, saving Brian. The group returns inside the house, where the librarian emerges from her room and shoots one of the dinosaurs before being killed by the others. Denise, Audrey, Brian, and Starbuck return to the roof and jump into the wormhole. They emerge in a residential swimming pool in 1982, where the homeowner orders them to leave. After asking where and when they are, they realize that they have returned to their own neighborhood on the same night Oak Street originally disappeared, approximately twenty minutes before the event. Jeannette runs toward her house, believing that her parents may still be alive. Denise sends Audrey and Brian to wait at a bus stop while she goes to a payphone. She calls Oak Street residents and warns them to leave the neighborhood before the white light appears. Realizing that Greg is due to return to Oak Street after completing a pizza delivery, Denise arranges for him to make his next delivery to the bus stop. When Greg arrives and encounters Audrey, he is confused by the family's emotional reaction to seeing him. The white light appears again, engulfing the suburb as Oak Street disappears and is replaced by the prehistoric landscape. Two years later, the military has contained the area while scientists study the prehistoric environment and its wildlife. Denise has published a book titled The End of Oak Street, based on her experiences. As Denise and Jeannette's families meet in the back yard for a barbecue, photographs from the events are displayed in her home, including the photograph of Greg standing in front of the two Camarasaurus.
