From the Head
The story opens with a young nurse, Kathy, arriving at a secluded psychiatric hospital to start a new job. She is introduced to the facility's intimidating hierarchy, including Dr. Roget, whose clinical detachment conceals an obsession with Patrick, a comatose patient kept alive under his supervision. Kathy is assigned to Patrick's care and begins her routine duties, which include monitoring his vitals and performing basic maintenance for his unresponsive body. Soon, Kathy experiences a series of inexplicable events. Equipment malfunctions, doors open and close on their own, and she receives cryptic messages on her computer that appear to be coming from Patrick. Initially dismissive, she becomes convinced that Patrick is somehow communicating with her telepathically. Her attempts to share her concerns are met with skepticism and hostility from the staff, particularly Matron Cassidy, who warns her not to get emotionally involved. Kathy begins investigating Patrick's history and learns that before falling into a coma, he committed acts of extreme violence, including the murder of his mother. As her connection with Patrick deepens, he begins to manipulate objects and even people around the hospital. Kathy's personal life becomes entangled when Patrick uses his telekinetic power to interfere with her relationships outside the hospital, isolating her further. As Patrick's influence grows, his actions become increasingly aggressive. Several staff members are injured or killed through mysterious accidents that Kathy suspects are Patrick's doing. Desperate to end his reign of terror, Kathy confronts Dr. Roget, who reveals that he has been using Patrick as a subject for unethical experiments designed to harness his psychic power. The climax unfolds as Patrick unleashes his full telekinetic strength, killing Roget and causing havoc throughout the hospital. Kathy narrowly survives a violent confrontation, ultimately managing to disconnect Patrick from life support and end his psychic assault. The film closes with Kathy leaving the ruined hospital, shaken but alive, as the sound of Patrick's respirator echoes in her memory, leaving a final hint of unease.
