Ghost Goggles
"The story is told by images and sounds of pain and fury." The phrase, spoken in the native language of Kamikia Kisedjê, opens and guides the documentary Prelude of Fury, the first film by the brasileiro photographer and visual artist Gilvan Barreto. In the documentary, Barreto articulates a dialogue between the work and the experiences of eight Brazilian photographers and visual artists: Adelaide Ivánova, Bruno Morais / Colectivo Pandilla, Hirosuke Kitamura, Kamikia Kisedje, Leo Caobelli / Garapa Collective, Lourival Cuquinha and Virginia de Medeiros, who share their interpretations for the daily brutal violence, contradiction and vulnerability that became naturalized in Brazil's society, especially in the areas made invisible by social and economic exclusion. The driving force of the artist's' work is aligned with the context of political upheaval that enveloped Brazil in 2015 and 2016. —Prelúdio da Fúria
