Chronicles the escape of Tudeh prisoners from Shah-era Qasr prison. In Dec 1950, Tudeh party, Iran's most influential Communist party, conducted a prison break for a group of its leaders imprisoned at the infamous Castle prison in Tehran. Centred around this dramatic escape, Escape from the Castle takes the audience on a tragically enchanting journey re-enacting the key events in the life and death of communism in Iran, from the 1940s to 1980s. It artistically interweaves archival footage, photography, interviews, and personal memoirs in search of a historical reckoning.
