In the Blind Spot
German crew in Kurdistan encounters ritual, translator nannies for haunted 7-year-old Melek whose father works for shady group, characters caught in web of conspiracy, paranoia, generational trauma linked to child's plight. A German film team is shooting a documentary in northeastern Turkey. In a remote Kurdish village, they witness an elderly woman performing a recurring ritual to keep the memory of her missing son alive. The Kurdish translator of the German crew is also the nanny of Melek, a 7-year-old Turkish girl. A German documentary film team is traveling in north-eastern Turkey to film the fate of the Kurdish woman Hatiçe, whose son was abducted a quarter of a century ago, presumably by the Turkish secret service. Together with interpreter Leyla, the team prepares for an important interview with lawyer Eyüp. But strange things start to happen: first the car is hit by a targeted rockfall; everyone has the feeling that someone is shadowing them; and finally the lawyer disappears shortly before the interview. Here the narrative perspective switches to Zafer, who has been observing Eyüp. Then there is Zafer's young daughter Melek, whose strange behavior irritates everyone. Melek senses that someone is watching everything - but who?
