Is the President Dead?
Surya Teja (Priyadarshi Pulikonda) is a junior lawyer at a Law firm owned by Mohan Rao (P. Sai Kumar). He aspires to one day be given and win an individual case so that he can be more than his father was able to do, which was notarize documents. Mohan Rao is a brilliant lawyer. In one case, a lorry driver hits a pedestrian while over speeding. Yet, Mohan proves that there were no speed limit signs on the highway, no zebra crossing etc, and hence it the pedestrian who was wrong in trying to cross the road at night at an unauthorized location. Surya knew all the questions that Mohan would ask in court, and yet he does not have a case of his own. Surya asks Mohan to assign a land dispute case to him. Mohan asks Surya a puzzle. He says that Surya is near a railway switch on a track and a train is coming. If the train continues on the same track, it kills one person and if the track is switched it kills 5 people, who what would Surya do and why. Without thinking Surya says that he would save the 5 people. Mohan walks away, dissatisfied with the answer. Next Mohan adds that the 5 are criminals, likely to be punished. In this scenario, Surya says that he will save the one person. Again, Mohan walks away. Mettu Chandrasekhar "Chandu" (Harsh Roshan) is a 19-year-old boy who does numerous errands to support himself. His family constitutes his father (Rajasekhar Aningi), who works as a watchman in a plot of land, his mother Mettu Nagalakshmi (Surabhi Prabhavathi) and sister. Chandrashekar is contacted by a 17-year-old girl, Jabilli (Sridevi) who comes from a well-to-do family and is friend of his neighbor. Jabilli starts by doing a prank on Chandu. She calls Chandu, but then he returns her calls, and they start a conversation. At first, Jabilli mocks Chandu for selling mobile phones and beer, indicating that he is not educated. Till now Chandu did not know who he was speaking to. Jabilli's friend asks Chandu to get them tickets to the latest Prabhas movie. Jabilli and her friends arrive at the theatre to find Chandu and his friends also watching the same movie with them. The movie experience changes Jabilli's view on Chandu, and she realizes that he is a nice guy. Chandu's mother irons clothes in the neighborhood and Chandu goes house to house to collect and return clothes. On one such visit he comes across his neighbor who was studying with Jabilli. From her talk it seems like she is the girl he has been talking to on the phone. He calls her and when Jabilli cuts the call, Chandu knows that Jabilli is the one. Soon teenagers fall in love. Mangapathi (Sivaji), married to Jabilli's paternal aunt, is considered as the head of the family, as Jabilli's father has died. Mangapathi uses his lawyer K. S. Damodhar "Damu" (Harsha Vardhan) and bribes the police office to create false cases against people he believes have done something to tarnish his, and by extension his family, image or honor. Mangapathi is very conservative in his views towards women. He has 2 daughters and does not allow them to wear even sleeveless dresses. When a boy at school hands over a worksheet to Mangapathi's daughter after class, he is noticed by Mangapathi's men. Mangapathi assumes that the boy had given a letter to his daughter. He gets the boy's milkman father arrested on a false case of narcotics smuggling. Jabilli lives with her mother Meruvalli Seetha Ratnam (Rohini), Meruvalli Ramachandrayya (Subhalekha Sudhakar), Jabilli's paternal grandfather and others. When Mangapathi finds out Jabilli is discretely spending time with Chandrashekar, he gets Chandrashekar arrested and charged with the POCSO / the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, a law designed to quickly and effectively convict sexual predators and pedophiles of minor victims. Jabilli is 17 years old, and Chandu is 19, and hence Mangapathi was able to manipulate the case this way. The family hires lawyer Sivaram (Vadlamani Srinivas), who, unknown to them, was already in cahoots with Damu and Mangapathi. Sivaram charges the poor family Rs 50,000 to fight the case. Damu argues in court that Chandu should not be given bail as he might have photos and videos of Jabilli that he might try to post online to ruin her reputation. Damu also produces a witness in court who is the owner of a pharmacy and claims that Chandu bought a condom from him on the day that he allegedly abducted Jabilli. Damu also produces 3 witnesses who saw Chandu "abduct" Jabilli from a local temple. The case goes to court and after all the arguments are heard the judge announces that he will provide a judgment at the next hearing. This is when Chandu's uncle hears from a lawyer about Mohan Rao who has handled similar cases in the past. Chandu's uncle meets Surya in Mohan's office and Surya realizes that Chandu has been in prison for 78 days and the trial is over, and the judgment is due the coming Monday. Surya tries to get Mohan's attention on the case, but Mohan ignores it. Mohan finally reads the case file and tells Surya to refuse the case. Surya is confident that he can take the case. Surya tells Chandu's uncle that he will take the case on Mohan's behalf. Surya appears in court on judgment day and successfully convinces the judge to conduct a retrial. Surya proves that the mere act of purchasing a condom is not a crime and there is no witness to the actual act of sex between Chandu and Jabilli. He also proves that the 3 witnesses who saw Chandu abducting Jabilli were clearly coached as their back stories did not match with each other. He then provides a statement from Jabilli's friend Nithya who says that Jabilli went on her own to Chandu's house. Out of court, Damu tries to bribe Surya to leave the case. At the next hearing, Damu states that Jabilli attended a wedding 5 days before her abduction. Chandu also came to the wedding and Damu produces a CCTV footage of both Chandu and Jabilli entering a secluded room and leave some time later. Mangapathi knew about this video but only wanted to use it at the right time. Surya is livid that Chandu hid this incident from him. Meanwhile Mohan Rao learns from a colleague that Surya is fighting a case on his behalf in a state court. Mohan visits Surya and encourages him to be a better lawyer by asking the right questions. He says that in his puzzle, it was important for Surya to understand why the one person or the 5 people were at the tracks in the first place. In court, Surya argues that Chandu and Jabilli going into a room does not mean that they had sex. Surya then confirms with Seetha Ratnam that she never asked Jabilli if she ever had sex with Chandu or not. Surya petitions the court to take Chandu's statement in a private hearing. Damu had produced a doctor who certified that Jabilli had bipolar disorder and hence cannot appear in court. But Surya proves that Jabilli had never been to the doctor's office and had never been treated by him. The court orders Jabilli to be present at the next hearing with her parents. Mangapathi and Damu tell the court that Jabilli has gone missing. Mangapathi knew that producing Jabilli in court was risky and hence told her and Seetha that the judge is on leave and the hearing has been rescheduled. Jabilli's grand father calls the court and finds that the hearing is underway and Jabilli and Seetha enter the courtroom. Jabilli gives her statement and says that in the room all she and Chandu did was to recreate the wedding process between themselves. Chandu is set free. Mangapathi and Damu are put under investigation for producing false witnesses in court. Surya is accepted as an advocate by Mohan. Jabilli and Chandu get back together.
