About the most famous of the Soviet psychics Anatoly Kashpirovsky who achieved immediate national fame during a televised broadcast of a healing session in 1989. At the height of his fame, Dr Anatoly Kashpirovsky became one of the most recognisable faces on television across the Soviet bloc. His televised healing séances broke viewing records, reaching hundreds of millions of people. Loved by his followers and despised by his enemies, Kashpirovsky became an unlikely symbol of a world undergoing radical political transformation. But Kashpirovsky's story is about more than one man. It is a story about belief, and the power of emotion to draw millions of people around a single voice. Against the backdrop of a collapsing empire, the film explores how hope, fear and the longing for certainty can transform a media figure into an extraordinary source of influence — and why the forces that made Kashpirovsky a phenomenon still feel so familiar today.
