Ryan is at the end of his rope. The love of his life is gone and he's left without a place to live. With nowhere to turn, he approaches his friends Monica and Esmeralda for help. They suggest he escape his current situation by going on holiday to New Zealand to visit places from his favorite movie, Lord of the Rings. While traveling abroad, Ryan also intends on disposing of a house key that links him to the painful memories from his past. Ryan embraces the journey along with his companion and documentary filmmaker-friend, Roman. They soon discover that taking a 2-week vacation together takes its toll on their friendship and their sanity. Ryan's carefully planned trip begins to unravel when he realizes that losing a key isn't as easy as it sounds. His 7,000 mile adventure begins to parallel Frodo Baggins as he is forced to find the courage to overcome each obstacle that comes his way. With Roman becoming increasingly distant and frustrated, Ryan decides to put their trip back on track by throwing the key away at the next given opportunity. Once again things don't quite go as planned and they find themselves nearing the end of their trip. Ryan finally chooses to enjoy what time they have left and let go of everything that has been holding him back. Before leaving the country, Ryan reflects on the moments that challenged him and shaped him as a person. He leaves New Zealand with a newfound sense of self and true understanding of happiness.
