Lady and the Tramp
At Christmas time, Jim Dear (Thomas Mann) gives his wife, Darling (Kiersey Clemons), a female American Cocker Spaniel puppy Lady (Tessa Thompson) as a present. She takes to her and names her Lady where she essentially becomes the "center of their world". Darling had wanted a puppy forever and she really loves Lady. Jim is a musician. Lady would not sleep in her room and would jump into bed with Jim and Darling. No amount of training from Jim could keep Lady away from Darling in her bed. In time Lady gets her own collar and license. Lady grows and becomes friends with her neighbor dogs including a Bloodhound named Trusty (Sam Elliott) and a feisty Scottish Terrier named Jacqueline / Jock (Ashley Jensen). Jock's owner is obsessed with making portraits of Jock and makes her model for the same for hours. Lady finds a rat around the house and chases it away. Soon, Darling is pregnant. Meanwhile, a homeless Schnauzer-mutt, who goes by the name Tramp (Justin Theroux), spends his days wandering the streets of New Orleans in search of food. Tramp steals food from unsuspecting humans, but often uses that to feed the orphan puppies, who have no one to look after them. Tramp causes trouble for the dog catcher Elliot (Adrian Martinez) who owns a vendetta against him. After freeing his friends Bull (Benedict Wong) and Peg (Janelle Monáe) from Elliot's carriage (Tramp pretends to be sick and lies next to Elliot's carriage, and Elliot picks him up and opens the lock to his carriage cage to put him in), he makes a run for it and ends up in the Dears' backyard. Having been shooed away from Darling's baby shower by Darling's aunt Sarah and not realizing why her owners are neglecting her (even though it was Lady's time for a walk), Lady mistakes Tramp's voice for Trusty's and confides in him. Lady says that her hair hasn't been brushed, no belly rubs, and none of new toys in the house are for her. Lady finds Tramp and tries to give away his position until he points out that Darling is clearly having a baby. Lady's barking catches the attention of Jim and Elliot, who both converge on Jim's front lawn. Tramp hides in the doghouse, and Jim asks Elliot to leave as there is no stray dog in his house, and he asks Elliot to investigate the rat problem around his house. Elliot leaves and Tramp comes out of hiding. Tramp warns Lady that her owners will keep ignoring her and the baby will replace her, but she refuses to believe him. Trusty and Jock suspect Tramp because he's a "street dog" and send him away. Before gladly leaving, Tramp warns them that "when a baby moves in the dog moves out". Lady is very confident that a baby will never be able to replace her as a baby cannot fetch slippers, cannot pick up the paper, and cannot provide Jim and Darling with a wholeness in their life. Trusty and Jock hesitate at Lady's last assertion. Aunt Sarah does not like Jim and looks down at him due to his humble profession and income. Jim and Darling have a baby girl named Lulu who they soon devote their lives to ("La La Lu"). Lady is not allowed inside the baby's room. They even stop listening to Lady's warnings of a rat that has been plaguing the house and start putting her outside. Lady begins to worry Tramp was right. One day, Jim and Darling take Lulu out for an extended visit to Jim Dear's sister and leave Darling's Aunt Sarah (Yvette Nicole Brown) to look after Lady for them, though she had really hoped to look after Lulu. As she goes upstairs to practice her singing, her two trouble-making cats, Devon (Nate Wonder) and Rex (Roman GianArthur) begin to destroy the house with Lady caught in the middle ("What a Shame"). Believing Lady to be the cause of it all, Aunt Sarah takes Lady to the pet store to have a muzzle placed on her and the store owner removes her collar to put the muzzle on. Lady runs away but gets trapped in an alley and threatened by a brutal street dog named Isaac (Clancy Brown). Luckily, Tramp arrives to save her. Tramp convinces the street dog that Lady is a ferocious canine with rabies, which is why she is wearing a muzzle. Tramp then helps her remove her muzzle with a beaver statue before opting to take her home by taking the "scenic route" so as to avoid Elliot since Lady left her collar behind. Tramp tells Lady that he is not seeing a lot of "lost dog" posters around, and so maybe Jim and Darling are not missing Lady as much as she thinks they are. Tramp takes Lady on a ferry to cross the river, and this was Lady's first time on a boat. They end up growing close and Lady accepts Tramp's offer to eat at "Tony's", his favorite restaurant ("Bella Notte"). The owner and the chef of the restaurant know Tramp and are especially kind to him when they see that he has brought a female dog with him as his date. The owner calls Tramp as Butch and instructs his chef to serve him the very best of the food in the house. Lady starts to agree with Tramp's view that her owners have forgotten about her and is no longer desiring to return home. Afterwards, Tramp shows Lady the view of the town and reveals that he too had owners, but they abandoned him once they had a baby. They get found by Elliot and are chased to the train station where Tramp sleeps. Though Tramp tells Lady to run, she returns to help him and gets caught instead. Tramp hesitates before escaping. Lady meets with Peg, Bull and the other pound dogs who all talk about Tramp and his exploits ("He's a Tramp"). They discuss Tramp's self-serving nature with Lady, causing her to question why he did not save her from Elliot. The next morning, Jim and Darling pick up Lady and kick Aunt Sarah and her cats out, presumably forever, for the way she mistreated Lady. Lady begins to bond with Lulu. Sometime later, Tramp finds that Peg and Bull have both been adopted, causing him to further regret leaving Lady behind. He goes to her house to apologize and while she appreciates it and still loves him, she does not want to leave her family again. They say their farewells and Tramp leaves just as a thunderstorm begins. However, the rat returns and sneaks into Lulu's room. Lady starts barking frantically, just as Elliot arrives to warn Jim Dear that he has tracked Tramp to their house. She manages to call Tramp who sneaks into the house and kills the vicious rat, getting injured in the process, but accidentally knocks over Lulu's crib. He is caught by Jim, Darling and Elliot who assume he was attacking Lulu. Just as Elliot takes Tramp away to euthanize, Lady uncovers the rat and proceeds to chase down the carriage with Trusty and Jock's help. The dogs catch up to the carriage and scare the horses, causing the carriage to collapse. Lady finds Tramp seemingly dead from the crash and begins to cry but he eventually wakes, and they reunite. The Dears arrive, having realized that Tramp was protecting Lulu, and decide to adopt him, saving him from Elliot. By next Christmas, Tramp has been fully accepted into the Dear household and given his own collar while Jock's owner has adopted two young puppies named Dodge (Ara Storm O'Keefe) and Ollie (Aemon Wolf O'Keefe) who Trusty and Jock take to like an uncle and aunt. Lady and Tramp happily spend the holidays with their perfect family, never to be parted again ("Peace on Earth").
