An bank locker is attacked in Brussels, Belgium with the attackers making away with just one particular locker. In Antwerp, Belgium, The story centers on Ben Logan (Aaron Eckhart) an ex-CIA agent and Amy (Liana Liberato), his estranged daughter. Ben works at Halgate securities, a specialized firm that designs sophisticated security systems for high profile firms across the world. Ben figures out a security loophole in the system, by which the electronic locking system can be made useless by injecting a formula made of ordinary household compounds into the lock. He makes a presentation to all the senior directors of the firm, telling them of this fatal flaw. Ben also makes a point to tell Derek, his supervisor that somehow Halgate does not own the patents to its own security systems. This is particularly strange since Hallgate designed the systems & filed for patents several years ago. Derek seems nonplussed & asks Ben to keep this to himself while he investigates. Ben makes a full report & files it before leaving office that night at 8 PM. The next morning, Ben returns to office to find that the entire floor is unoccupied & all traces of his company ever being there have been completely removed. Amy is with him at the time. Ben drives down to the corporate office in Brussels to locate Derek & finds that there is no record of Derek or Ben of ever being employed by the firm. The corporate office insists that Ben has been working for a Halgate subsidiary that does not exist, on a product that Halgate does not own, for a man who is not employed by Halgate. Ben's blackberry is empty & his bank accounts show no traces of any payments made to him by Halgate. At the bank, Ben is kidnapped by Floyd (a person who used to work for Ben at Halgate). He forces Amy & Ben into a car & onto the highway, where Ben manages to decapitate Floyd. Amy & Ben manage to run from the police, but Amy keeps badgering Ben about going to the state authorities (including US authorities) to sort this out. Ben has got the keys to an Antwerp locker from Floyd & when he visits it, he finds dossiers of all the people he has worked with at Halgate. He finds that all of them have been killed recently when he finds their bodies at the local morgue. They also realize that all the people employed were immigrants, like Ben. Amy and Ben are attacked again by an assassin at the morgue. Ben manages to kill the attacker, but not before Amy is shot in the shoulder. Ben reveals that he is working for the CIA. Back at CIA EU HQ, Anna is Ben's handler. Floyd & the other assassin were both CIA assets, & Anna's boss believes that Ben killed them both. Anna tells her boss that Ben was decommissioned 6 months earlier for not following orders. He was not sent home as an example to others. Anna's boss reveals now that the bank locker that was burgled contained sensitive documents on an ongoing investigating into Halgate by US state department & Belgian secret service. The investigation pertained to a merchant ship belonging to Halgate that sank 6 months ago. Halgate was willing to settle with the crew's families, but one family held out citing evidence in the shipping manifest that pointed to a bigger conspiracy. Halgate was shipping illegal arms to rouge countries for their own gain. That locker contained the evidence incriminating Halgate. & Ben is a suspect believed to have helped Halgate steal that evidence, which will lead to the case against Halgate collapsing. Anna is tasked with finding Ben. Anna calls Derek who has the locker in his possession & has used the security flaws that Ben outlined to open its contents. Anna contacts Halgate's lawyer, who tells her that he is trying to track Derek. Anna confronts him about him trying to use the CIA team to eliminate Ben & the rest of the team. The lawyer retorts that Ben was about to figure out that the entire setup was fake & hence he had to pull the plug. Meanwhile Ben traces the patent number on the security systems & figures that it belongs to the CIA. Ben also figures out the alias that Derek has been using & uses that to trace Derek's location in Antwerp. CIA traces that call & sends Anna to intercept. Before Anna can intercept, Ben takes the locker evidence & escapes with Amy. Derek shoots himself. Amy storms off, but is kidnapped by another assassin, this time hired by the Halgate lawyer. Ben studies the papers recovered from Derek. The papers reveal that Halgate was using CIA documents to prove that Halgate was shipping illegal arms on behalf of the CIA. Anna's name figures in the list of Halgate's consultants which shows that Halgate was being helped by people within the CIA to set this up. Ben meets Anna & tells her to go to his real boss, & to secure Amy's release. Anna approaches Mr Halgate directly, bypassing his lawyer & secures his permission to set up the exchange between Amy & Halgate's evidence that Ben possesses. Anna tries to save Amy by killing Halgate's men but is shot by the assassin hired by Halgate's lawyer. Halgate goes the exchange himself. Ben has rigged the briefcase with plastic explosives, & when the exchange is made, he blows the briefcase killing Halgate, his lawyer & his assassin, all in one shot. Ben & Amy return to the US.
