Le sort de l'Amérique
Two well-known Quebec artists (filmmaker Jacques Godbout and playwright René-Daniel Dubois) look at the Battle of the Plains of Abraham. Whose version of this historic event should prevail? Is history best served by documentary or fiction? Through humorous re-enactments and interviews, "Le Sort de l'Amérique" examines one of the most consequential dates in North American history: September 13, 1759. This was when General Wolfe of the British army defeated the French General Montcalm on the Plains of Abraham in Québec City, leading to the eventual defeat of the French forces and their withdrawal from Canada. The documentary features interviews with descendants of the two generals: one a journalist with the BBC in the UK, the other a Frenchman who is restoring the Montcalm family estate. —txtech1983
