An old Berlin apartment building witnesses five stories across time: 1920s murder, Nazi gathering, GDR escape, 90s squatters, and a refugee host, reflecting the city's changes and gentrification. Through the eyes and ears of an old abandoned apartment block in the center of Berlin, 'Lichtenberg' tells stories from five different periods of recent Berlin History. A Weimar murder, a Nazi meeting, an East German family's escape, the arrival of two 90's squatters and finally, a woman who hopes to host a young Syrian refugee in her flat. Collectively the stories, framed against the reality of an ever-changing, ever-gentrifying Berlin, ask the viewer to consider that history belongs to these old buildings.
