Life's a Beach
Darren gets stood up on the day of his wedding and uses his vacation tickets with his best friend, RJ, to spend his "honeymoon" at a Club Med-style resort. DARREN is getting married. On the day of his wedding, however, at the altar, when it's Rebecca's turn to say her "I do's", she says, "I don't" and runs into the arms of her ex-boyfriend. Darren is now stuck with two, non-refundable honeymoon tickets to the exclusive tropical island resort, La Ritza. With much coaxing from his best man, RJ, the jilted groom decides to use his honeymoon package and take RJ as his companion. Darren and RJ arrive at La Ritza resort under the false assumption that they are a gay couple. BRAD, the "party coordinator" takes over. He introduces Darren to ISABELLE, the most radiant of all the hotel employees. Darren is immediately smitten. Unfortunately, Isabelle is "in couple" with the Hotel Manager and resort playboy, JEAN-LUC. Although her relationship with Jean-Luc is more professional than romantic, it is necessary for her to cater to his every need. Darren and RJ take two different approaches to their week in the sun: RJ wants to have sex with everything that moves; Darren wants Isabelle. When they're invited to the infamous "picnic", Darren accidentally finds himself engaged in lustful activities with a married female guest. RJ passes out in the sand with her husband. On the last night at the resort, Darren finally gains the courage to express his feelings to Isabelle. Darren's heterosexual advances frighten her away. After one week, on the morning of departure, Darren asks Jean-Luc for a job so he can stay on the island. Jean-Luc, having witnessed Darren's sexual prowess during the picnic, offers Darren a position. Darren accepts, and then persuades RJ to stay. Darren runs off to find Isabelle to tell her the good news. RJ stays behind to help greet the new guests as they arrive, two of whom he recognizes: Rebecca and her very angry father, ROY (Christopher Walken). Darren's presence at the hotel is Isabelle's nightmare. She explains the differences of being a guest at the hotel or a worker; Darren's fantasy turns into a disaster. Fellow hotel workers lose their friendliness as well as their "foreign" accents. Things only get worse when Darren discovers his ex-fiancee and dad have checked in as guests. Rebecca finds Darren and apologizes, asks Darren to give their relationship a second chance. The next day, Darren tries to dissuade Rebecca from attending the crazy picnic. Rebecca does not heed his advice. Like everyone else, she turns into a party animal. Rebecca's attention is easily swayed away from Darren and into her vacation. Isabelle is jealous when she sees Darren and Rebecca together. Tired of this so-called paradise, Darren looks forward to returning home. As the replacement DJ, he plays a song for Isabelle, and then chases after her to try and convince her to leave the island with him. On the final day everyone's destiny comes into fold. Rebecca is surprisingly greeted by her childhood sweetheart who arrives to "win back her love." RJ is reborn after spending the night with a soulful woman. Brad decides he will no longer be a prisoner in paradise. And, of course, Isabelle and Darren open up their hearts and let fate take them on their course... all the way back to home. —Tony Vitale
