"No Limits - No Regrets" (NLNR) opens with Axe's high-speed ride on the back roads in the dark of early morning on his 2010 BMW S1000RR (S1K) as he provides a little background on how he celebrates his adrenaline addiction. The next few scenes give a little insight to his background including his childhood Charlie Brown racetrack, "Dukes of Hazzard" driving tips, midwestern upbringing, and time in a Jacksonville ghetto. While that period was bleak, it was where he started building custom choppers and nurtured his love for the two wheeled machines. Pursuing his passion was exactly what he needed at that time of life. He eventually went back to engineering, met his girlfriend, Sunshine, and went through open heart surgery before they moved back to San Antonio. They added a pup, Baron, to their family and happily enjoyed the local sights and sounds of central Texas. Axe then goes through the history of his past cars and motorcycles as well as his current stable, which includes the S1K, a Sportster, and a Cadillac CTS-V coupe. He can't leave anything stock, so he describes some of the modifications on his vehicles ranging from custom paint to advanced electronics. The former bike builder also begins fabricating one last chopper for himself and shows the build process to make the bike just the way he wants it. After taking first place in the pro builder's class in an Austin bike show, Axe and Sunshine watch the movie about Alex Roy breaking the cross-country automobile speed record, and the gears between Axe's ears start to turn. He soon decides that he's going to use his S1K to break the cross-country motorcycle record and becomes obsessed with planning and organization for the daunting task. While preparing for the cross-country run, he finishes the chopper, which he names the Gripper for its 300 rear tire, and rides it with his buddy, Pick, to Daytona Beach for Biketoberfest. No sooner than returning to Texas, he takes the S1K to the Texas Mile and blasts 167 mph down a runway for his first event. The next life event is the house he buys for him, Sunshine, and Baron as they continue to establish their happy life in Texas. Amidst tactical shooting events, playing guitar, hikes, and other fun, he continues to focus on getting ready for his 2400-mile ride, putting his engineering skills to use and leaving nothing to chance. The bike is modified for better mileage, additional fuel storage, radar detection, and a thermal vision system. Once the bike is complete and on its way to San Diego, he gets a pre-ride tattoo reading German for "Live without limits, die without regrets." He also takes one last trip on the Gripper to the beach at Corpus to watch the sun rise over the ocean and do some internal searching. While sitting by his chrome creation at the beach, he takes a very honest look at himself and wonders why he can't just enjoy the perfect life he has. He knows he has a destructive addiction to adrenaline, realizes he has to take the risk and make the ride to be able to appreciate and enjoy his life at home, and has just learned to accept it versus understand it. Once in San Diego, Axe quickly has the equipment installed on the bike. On the day of the ride, he puts on his adult diaper and condom catheter and loads his CamelBak® with energy drinks and electrolytes to counter the dehydration effects of the energy drinks. Shortly after squeezing into the leathers, his college roommate, Hollywood, sees him depart from the beach. Having never lived in California, Axe quickly adapts to lane splitting to avoid traffic delays and is soon blasting across I8 East. Tanford, an old work buddy, volunteered to be the home base and advises Axe of things like gas mileage and stops to avoid being stranded with an empty tank. The ride is not without its challenges with the equipment modifications, and much of the last part of the ride is done with a failed phone, cutting off all communication with anyone at the most critical period of the ride. The technical challenges are minor details compared to the biological ones. With barely any fluids, food, and no sleep after so long, his brain starts to get stuck between dream and reality. Safety becomes irrelevant as he flies through the dark of night at ridiculous speeds to the finish line. Eventually, he rips through Jacksonville and is saved from a ticket in the last hour of the ride by his radar detection. After the first turn of the trip on the A1A exit, he rolls onto the beach completely depleted. Axe is so exhausted that he doesn't even think to pull the clutch or brake levers and gets stuck in the sand. Once back at Tracer's place, he removes the leathers, diaper, and catheter and crashes into the pillow. Barely two hours later, he wakes and rides his trusty steed back to the finish line in the sunrise to reflect on his accomplishment. Not only did he make the ride successfully but broke the record with a time of 33 hours and 10 minutes from beach to beach across America. He is truly on top of the world, and all he wants to do is go back to his perfect life in Texas with his proudest achievement now under his belt. However, nature commands cruel balance, and addicts never get the fairy tale ending. The worst tragedy imaginable strikes shortly after his return home and destroys his world. At the lowest point of his life, he realizes that that he's no longer running from Death. He's chasing it.
