Leaving a broken marriage and finding a job at a motel could be the best thing that's happened to Marion in years. Disturbing phone messages however soon begin to threaten her sanity. 15 years of marriage is tough to leave behind. Coping with the loss of a child is even harder. When Marion finds work as a motel receptionist, and the job comes with its own accommodation, she see this as a chance to make a new start. After a visit to her room one night by the motel's owner, her job takes on a new dimension. Supplying her with an old black phone, she must take messages from unusual callers. The motel owner is very specific about how she does so. Do not engage in conversation. Do not ask questions. Follow the guidelines and then hang up. At first Marion thinks her job is about helping people. But soon the messages take on a more disturbing tone, raising questions about where they come from, what happened to her daughter, her failed marriage and her sanity.
