Magic(s)
In Israel, a region too often found at the center of religious conflict, a magician bypasses cultural bias in order to speed the healing process in children, regardless of cultural background. In a journey of "Tikkun Olam" (to heal the world), a very unique magician entertains sick and injured Palestinian and Jewish children thoughout Israel's pediatric hospitals as their parents detail the need for peace from a multi-cultural perspective. Some people call him Michael, others believe he's nothing short of magic. —T.M. Felderstein A magical collaboration between Jews and Arabs, "Magic(s)" tells the story of a beloved medical magician who creates laughter and humor through sleight of hand and foolery in an effort to speed the healing of sick and injured kids, regardless of their cultural heritage. Often found in the same hospital ward, Jewish and Palestinian families welcome the arrival of "Magic Michael," a Jewish American magician who has dedicated his professional career to the health and healing of all young people. Produced during the second intifada, "Magic(s)" profiles a number of citizens, from Israeli to Palestinian, where they share insight into a political climate that seems to slightly improve every generation or so. As his magical medical practice demonstrates the exact concept of tikkun olam (To Heal the World), parents on both sides of the political conflict praise his talents as they offer opinions on life, death and the future they are paving for their children. —T.M.
