Samir Mitra is an unemployed graduate whose father is retired and mother is suffering from cancer. One day, Samir meets Manik whose father Niranjan Sadhuka is also ill. Manik is in Kolkata to meet his father`s friend, Chandrakanta Majumada, who is an established businessman. But Manik meets an accident and when he is about to die, he asks Samir to take care of his family; his father and younger sister; and also to not disclose the news of his death. Samir thus goes to Chandrakanta as Manik. He gets a job there and with it he takes care of Manik and his family. But situation takes a different course when Niranjan comes to Kolkata. Does everyone come to know of Samir`s identity? What follows forms the crux of the story.
