NYC Point Gods
Free UR Head is a public participatory choreography project, using custom-developed real-time XR technology. It started with bringing people together and playing with VR technology, making it more accessible and public. What if we can conduct the heads of the VR audience into a choreography? We invite you to join and participate in an unprecedented collective large-scale immersive performance. Seated in VR headsets you will perform into an impromptu unrehearsed choreography. The experience will occur in the presence of audiences there on purpose or passing by who can enjoy the choreography taking shape in real-time. By playing around with collective movement using virtual reality, Free UR Head questions and explores the boundaries of conducted collective movement and behavior in a mutual relationship with digital technology. Director's note Developing Free Ur Head I realize it's multi-dimensional, reflecting on social needs to be together, connecting on- and offline, and our relationship with technology. It also touches upon ancient rituals of coming together in dance and prayer to defeat fear, or in celebration. I was intrigued to know if I could use XR to bring people together to create a contemporary allegory, and how Free Ur Head will be shaped in a different space and setting, and influenced by cultural context, and audience from a diverse background. What conversation with and among the public will it provoke? And as a creator how will I be inspired in my upcoming works dealing with this larger universal subject of collective movement?
