While filming a photo shoot featuring female clowns with over 20 years of experience in clowning, the very core of modern womanhood is exposed. By interviewing three women while they put their makeup on and get into character, they get to share about their personal lives, and their theories on laughter, standards, femininity, ridiculousness, vanity, and, getting older, and ageism. We see the process of their photo shoot, each one of them is unique and we see the results of their essays. One of them poses dressed based on the classic of the art's history, but in a clown's point of view. We see the transformation and suddenly we can see her version of 'Monalisa', 'Frida Kalo', 'The kiss', 'The shout' and many others... An exhibition with naked ladies clowns that put sensual photography to another level. They show us other sides of the clown, such as a lady clown who doesn't like children, a clown who talks about women's prison, and a work between a Clown and Down Syndrome children. Lovely clownettes is a film about ladies clowns who let their guard down, showing courage to undress themselves to an audience. They let drop their mask,, and in doing so, more than talking about clowns, they talk about being women these days. It is a film where the core of womanhood is exposed. It is about standards, where we are equal in our difference, and different in our similarities. It is about loosening, showing us that the clown can only win when he loses... "My father was an ex-priest and my mother an ex-nun, the result of this passion was me, a clown!" Says clown LucÃola (Cris munoz). They stroll by car, standing in a sunroof at the same time, having Rio de Janeiro's postcards landscapes as a background. They talk to passers-by, strike up, propose marriage to a married man, or try to be Hang-gliding beacons. We see the processes in real-time and the results of the sessions, we see the classic of the arts such as "Monalisa", "The kiss", "The scream" and many others, but from a clown's point of view...
