Photographer Richard Billingham returns to the squalid council flat outside of Birmingham where he and his brother were raised, in a confrontation and reconciliation with parents Ray and Liz. Father Ray is a heavy drinker and often spends time at the pub. His wife Liz spends most of her time embroidering. Their sons Richard and Jason are at the mercy of their parents' unpredictable behavior. They are left to fend for themselves when their parents sleep late into the afternoon. At first, they live in a small terraced house, but later they have to move into social housing. When Jason is allowed to stay overnight with a classmate's family, he experiences real family life for the first time. —WDR
