Some people say he's the greatest MC of all time. An In Memoriam anthology documentary dedicated to the spirit, heart and genius of Derek Barbosa; the legendary lyricist, MC, actor, director and graphic novelist known globally as Chino XL. Chino XL lived and loved hip-hop culture and enjoyed a career marked by honors at Yale University and by the Cities of Los Angeles and East Orange, NJ (his hometown). Born in Bronx, NY and raised in NJ, he was signed at age 18 by Rick Rubin to his American Recordings. He moved to California in 1999, where lived until his death by suicide in 2024. The film features 69 notable colleagues, peers, collaborators and friends; luminaries, from both inside and outside of the entertainment industry, who pay homage to the man also known as "The Wordsmith". —Gala Trichton
