The family poses for a portrait without Mirabel. Mirabel suddenly sees cracks in the Casita and a vision of the candle's flame going out, but her warnings go unheeded when the Casita appears undamaged to the others. Later that night, Mirabel secretly overhears Abuela lamenting to her Pedro's picture that cracks in the Casita mean that their magic is losing its strength. Later that night, Mirabel resolves to restore Casita's magic herself. Mirabel's 19-year-old sister Luisa, who possesses superhuman strength, confesses to Mirabel that she feels overwhelmed by her constant obligation to help the villagers using her strength Luisa suggests that Bruno's room, which is located in a forbidden tower in the Casita, may hold some clues to the phenomenon. Luisa says years ago Bruno had a vision about the breaking up of the Casita, but Bruno was outcast, and nobody ever spoke about the vision after that. Inside, Mirabel discovers a cave and recovers pieces of a slab of opaque emerald glass which form an image showing her & then causing the Casita to fall apart. After Mirabel narrowly escapes the cave, Luisa realizes that her family's gifts are starting to weaken. Mirabel's father AgustÃn enters and accidentally discovers Mirabel. He warns her to keep the discovery a secret, but both of them are overheard by Pepa's daughter Dolores, who possesses supernatural hearing. The next night, Isabela (Diane Guerrero), is scheduled to become engaged to neighbor Mariano Guzman (Maluma). Mirabel's oldest cousin Dolores (Adassa), who possesses superhuman hearing, admits to overhearing Mirabel talking with her father about Bruno's vision that the Casita will crack and fall apart and all of that is somehow connected to Mirabel. Mariano's proposal is disrupted when the Casita once again begins to crack after Mirabel puts together the broken pieces of the Emerald to reveal a mural depicting Mirabel at the center of the breaking up of the Casita, causing Pepa, whose emotions control the weather, to conjure up a thunderstorm to everyone's shock. Isabela blames Mirabel despite her protests. Mirabel glimpses Bruno hiding inside the walls of the Casita. Mirabel follows rats carrying the pieces of opaque emerald to a secret passage behind a portrait, where she finds Bruno. He never actually left the house because he still loves his family. He has also been patching all the cracks of the Casita from inside, to keep the house together. Bruno says he got his vision the day Mirabel didn't get the power. But the vision was uncertain, undecided, alternate between Mirabel saving Casita and destroying it, leading him to believe she is the key to the fate of Casita's magic. Mirabel convinces Bruno to make predictions again. Bruno creates another vision, which shows the Casita collapsing and an image of Mirabel embracing a young woman which will make the candle brighter and protect the Casita, who they identify as Isabela. Mirabel goes to apologize to Isabela as Mirabel ruined Isabela's proposal and is pretty sure she hates Mirabel. She accidentally provokes a cathartic confession as Isabela does not want to marry Mariano and is burdened by her image of perfection. Mirabel helps Isabela blossom into her true, imperfect self, and the sisters embrace. However, Alma spots Isabela growing whatever she wants (Cactus instead of flowers) with Mirabel from afar and accuses the latter of causing the family's misfortunes out of spite for not having a gift. Mirabel finally snaps at Alma, saying everything was truly her fault for making everyone do things her way. Their argument suddenly creates a huge fissure that destroys the Casita. Alma's magical candle dies in Mirabel's hands despite the latter's efforts to save it, leaving all the Madrigals powerless. Distraught, Mirabel feels like a total failure and runs away. Alma later finds a tearful Mirabel at the river where Pedro died and finally takes responsibility for placing too much pressure on the family and forgetting that their real gift was not their powers but the family itself as the miracle happened to save the family. Mirabel realizes that the woman in Bruno's vision was in fact a young Alma and reassures her of her importance to the family and reconciles with her. With Bruno in tow, they reunite with the Madrigals and the villagers to rebuild the Casita. Mirabel introduces Mariano to Dolores. When finished, the Casita springs back to life and the magic of the house returns as do the family's magical gifts. The Madrigals then pose for another family portrait, this time with Mirabel and Bruno included in it.
