Ronin 3: The Battle for Sangin
Dubbed in : English ( Original )
In 2010, a hard-hit USMC platoon overwhelmed the enemy in a notorious Taliban stronghold, to help the local Afghans chart their own course. Real stories of resilience, sacrifice, and survival - captured in real time. Narrator, Tom Berenger In 2010, a USMC platoon was sent to clear a notorious area in Afghanistan, entrenched with malicious Taliban fighters causing havoc. Regardless of rank we explore the human side of highly trained warfighters and what they went through to build resiliency in a Taliban kill zone. Sacrifice and survival carved a legacy of overcoming in the most dangerous place on earth. Narrated by Tom Berenger, Music by Alan Williams. At the height of an escalating insurgent war, the mission for 3rd Battalion 5th Marines (3/5) Darkhorse was to establish security for Sangin locals trapped in a Taliban world of opium trafficking, anti-government rebellion, and merciless killing. Attacks began upon 3/5's arrival and continued furiously for months. As the hardest hit Marine battalion of the Afghan war; 3/5 suffered 25 KIA and over 180 seriously wounded. Each casualty triggered resolve to become the predators not the prey to stop unending violence and criminal activity, while helping the Afghan people "chart their own course." Breakthrough military history recorded for the first time from twenty-five different Marines. Real time combat footage. We walk with them in narrow, bomb-laden alleyways - across open fields with no cover, and ward off sniper fire throughout a Taliban stronghold, fortified with countless IEDs. Several actual IED strikes are captured on camera, along with CASEVACs, and fierce Marine Corps retribution targeting Taliban attackers. One discovers how a platoon leader feels sending his men into dangerous areas, when injuries and deaths keep mounting. How does a squad leader make split-second decisions during a triple Taliban ambush when IEDs threaten every step? How does the lance corporal, first time in combat, gear up each patrol and walk out into the unknown? Adrenaline and determination fuel the courage, as brothers in arms bond for life through victory and tragedy. Then look back to what it all meant to them.
