From the Director - Matt Schultz "The Roots of Happiness is something special to me. A labor of love and passion; a commitment to a dream. Its been my dream to make a film, its the reflection of the kids dreams to be something great, and it tries to rethink the dream of a happy and healthy Africa. I don't expect this film will change the entire world. But it has already changed mine. As a film maker you wonder if you could ever make a difference in the world. How can I help change things? I am just an artist? All I can do is tell a tale. A tale about kids, who live in a country half a world away, with a hard life and a big smile. When I met the kids, I was absolutely inspired by them. They were regular kids and teenagers, but the wisdom they held, the words they said during our conversations, well, they opened up my heart and my mind to a different way of thinking. The kids found happiness in simple things, simple things that I always seemed to ignore. But they were not stupid, they understood that the challenges they have faced will not relent unless they make a change in themselves and then share that change with the world around them. And that is when I realized my role, I would share their story, film their vision of change, amply their voice and broadcast it around the world."
