The Marksmen is the story of a former small town baseball hero who, after being forced out of the big leagues, returns home lost and broken, only to discover that you can go home again. Upon returning home after the sudden death of his mother, Tommy Madden (Jay Schillinger) is grappling with a decision in his past. Emotionally indifferent, Tommys relationship with his grieving father (Steve Kanaly) is also on the edge. Things have certainly changed for Tommy in Wausau, Wisconsin. But while visiting the local bar, he meets up with some old friends to find that they still have a common thread, their love for the game of baseball. Tommys buddies soon convince him to join them in forming The Marksmen, a fast-pitch softball team in order to compete in the National Fast-Pitch Softball Tournament. With Tommys talent, The Marksmen could have the opportunity to compete against the defending national champs, the All-Care team, led by an unscrupulous millionaire, Samuel J. Weber (Martin Kove). The Marksmen make it to the tournaments championship game, and no one is surprised when their competition is the All-Care champs. However, the opposing teams Samuel Weber discovers Tommys past, and threatens to expose the side of him few people know about. While in the beginning Tommy sees softball has just a game, he realizes that for his teammates its a chance to leave Wausau and seek out new beginnings. For his father, its an opportunity to finally work with his son again. For his optimistic one-time girlfriend, Alison (Martha Byrne), its an opportunity to rekindle a lost love. And for Tommy, its about second chances...and to gain back an innocence and simpler life that he once knew.
