A Secret Service agent infiltrates a counterfeiting ring by posing as a crime boss, while their engraver works from prison. During the operation, the agent falls for Nora Craig. The US secret service goes after a counterfeit ring, whose engraver Eugene Deane has covertly constructed his plates while serving a life sentence in San Quentin. In order to infiltrate the gang, federal agent John Riggs poses as an Eastern kingpin who wants to purchase a large quantity of the fake currency. During his investigations he falls in love with beautiful Nora Craig... —Christof Roscher The US Secret Service has become aware of some high quality counterfeit bills coming into circulation. The art is of the quality only by a well known paper hanger named Deane, however it couldn't be him as Deane is already in prison. But checking Deane's cell, John Riggs, leading the investigation, discovers that Deane indeed had created the plates in his cell, he uncooperative in not telling where the plates currently reside in having nothing to gain in having only a few months to live. As such, Riggs has to rely on any lead as to the passing of large amounts of the bills, they finally having a break in Los Angeles. But in following leads and losing leads, Riggs comes across the lead of a middle class and seemingly respectable Los Angeles hotel. Going undercover at the hotel as Nick Starnes, who lets it be known around the hotel that he is a high roller and a bit on the shady side, Riggs believes the hotel is indeed the break he was waiting for, and that the manager, Nora Craig, is somehow involved. As he gets deeper and deeper into the undercover work, he gets potentially closer and closer to being caught by the counterfeiters who are naturally a suspicious lot. —Huggo
