Peter Parker tries to stop Adrian 'The Vulture' Toomes from selling weapons made with advanced Chitauri technology while trying to balance his life as an ordinary high school student. A young Peter Parker/Spider-Man begins to navigate his newfound identity as web-slinging superhero Spider-Man. Thrilled by his experience with the Avengers, Peter returns home, where he lives with his Aunt May, under the watchful eye of his new mentor Tony Stark. Peter tries to fall back into his normal daily routine--distracted by thoughts of proving himself to be more than just your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man--but when the Vulture emerges as a new villain, everything that Peter holds most important will be threatened. Peter Parker, The Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man, is patiently waiting for Tony Stark to give him a mission where he can help out as best as he can manage. Balancing everyday life as Peter Parker alongside being Spider-Man is a daunting task for The Wall Crawler and it starts taking its toll when Parker encounters a gang of underground thugs selling Chitauri-based weapons for a mysterious villain known as The Vulture. In the aftermath of Captain America: Civil War (2016), fifteen-year-old Peter Parker finds himself back in Queens, struggling to juggle high school and his secret identity as Tony Stark's aspiring protégé. While Peter is on pins and needles waiting for a chance to prove his mettle as an Avenger, Stark keeps him on a short leash, fearful that the boy will bite off more than he can chew. Then the Vulture emerges—a winged criminal brandishing lethal Chitauri tech. Seeing this as his golden ticket, Peter jumps at the chance to prove he belongs among Earth's mightiest heroes. But is Spider-Man truly ready to be more than a neighbourhood defender? After the Battle of New York, Adrian Toomes (Michael Keaton) and his Bestman Salvage crew clean alien debris from a New York site. Anne Marie Hoag (Tyne Daly) arrives with Department of Damage Control personnel and tells Toomes that the agency, operating through a partnership between Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) and the U.S. government, now controls the cleanup. Toomes protests that he has already bought trucks and hired workers for the job, but Hoag shuts the operation down. Back at his warehouse, Toomes examines the Chitauri technology his crew has already removed from the site. Rather than surrender it, he orders his crew, including Phineas Mason (Michael Chernus), Jackson Brice (Logan Marshall-Green), and Herman Schultz (Bokeem Woodbine), to keep the materials and adapt them. [NARRATION_OPEN: Peter Parker] Eight years later, Peter Parker (Tom Holland) records a video diary as Happy Hogan (Jon Favreau) escorts him to Germany for the Avengers conflict. Peter films his hotel room, the new Spider-Man suit Stark provides, and portions of his involvement in the airport battle. After the trip, Stark brings Peter back to Queens, tells May Parker (Marisa Tomei) that Peter participated in a Stark internship, and privately tells Peter to return to neighborhood activity rather than pursue Avengers-level incidents. Happy remains Peter's point of contact. [NARRATION_CLOSE: Peter Parker] Two months later, Peter attends Midtown School of Science and Technology while waiting for another call from Stark. He watches video of his Germany appearance, texts Happy frequent updates, and leaves school activities to patrol Queens as Spider-Man. At school, Liz (Laura Harrier) leads the academic decathlon team, Flash (Tony Revolori) taunts Peter, Michelle (Zendaya) observes him, and Mr. Harrington (Martin Starr) coaches the team for its upcoming national competition in Washington, D.C. Peter quits the decathlon team, claiming that the Stark internship requires his time. During a neighborhood patrol, Peter stops small crimes, helps residents, and visits Mr. Delmar (Hemky Madera) at a local bodega. He then interrupts masked thieves using alien-enhanced weapons during an ATM robbery. One weapon blast destroys the bodega across the street. Peter returns to his apartment through his bedroom window, and Ned (Jacob Batalon) sees him in the Spider-Man suit. Ned drops his Lego model and confronts Peter with the discovery of his secret identity. At school, Ned questions Peter about Spider-Man and asks to serve as his helper. During lunch, Liz says Spider-Man inspires her, and Ned blurts out that Peter knows him. Liz invites Peter to a party at her house and asks whether Spider-Man will appear. Peter attends the party with Ned, but he leaves after seeing an explosion in the distance before he can appear to Liz as Spider-Man. The explosion leads Peter to a weapons sale between Brice, Schultz, and Aaron Davis (Donald Glover). The sellers demonstrate alien-based equipment for Davis, who wants a weapon with a lower profile. Peter intervenes, but his arrival disrupts the transaction. Toomes arrives in a winged flight suit, seizes Peter, carries him high above the area, and drops him into a lake. Peter's suit deploys a parachute that tangles around him in the water. Stark controls an Iron Man armor remotely, pulls Peter from the lake, and warns him again to stop pursuing the weapons dealers. Peter later finds one of the abandoned weapons at the scene. Inside Toomes's operation, Toomes rebukes Brice for firing a weapon in public and endangering the business. Brice threatens to expose the crew to the authorities. Toomes fires a device at him, intending to intimidate him, but the weapon disintegrates Brice. Mason identifies the device as the wrong one, and Toomes gives Brice's Shocker gauntlet to Schultz. Peter and Ned study the recovered weapon at school and remove its power core. Schultz tracks the missing device to Midtown, and Peter sees him outside the school. Peter plants a tracking device on Schultz, then learns that Schultz is traveling toward Maryland. To follow him, Peter rejoins the academic decathlon team and joins the class trip to Washington, D.C. On the trip, Ned helps Peter bypass the training-wheels protocol in the Stark suit and unlocks additional functions. The suit's artificial intelligence, Karen (Jennifer Connelly), begins guiding Peter. Peter leaves the hotel and tracks Toomes's crew to a Department of Damage Control truck carrying alien technology. He tries to stop Toomes from stealing from the truck, but Toomes traps him inside the vehicle. The truck transports Peter into a Damage Control storage facility, where he remains confined until he escapes the next morning. The academic decathlon team competes without Peter and wins the national tournament. Ned continues carrying the Chitauri power core in his backpack. At the Washington Monument, the core passes through an X-ray scanner, activates, and explodes, damaging the elevator system while Ned, Liz, Flash, Mr. Harrington, and other students remain inside. Peter reaches the monument as Spider-Man, climbs the exterior, enters the damaged structure, and rescues the trapped students before the elevator falls. Back in New York, Peter reviews footage from his suit and identifies Davis from the earlier weapons sale. He tracks Davis, webs him to his car, and questions him. Davis provides information about Toomes's next transaction because he does not want alien weapons in the neighborhood where his nephew lives. Peter goes to the Staten Island Ferry, where Toomes and his associates meet Mac Gargan (Michael Mando) and other buyers. Peter captures Gargan, but Toomes escapes. During the fight, a malfunctioning weapon splits the ferry open. Peter webs the two sections together, but Stark arrives in an Iron Man suit and uses additional support to stabilize the vessel. After the rescue, Stark takes back the advanced Spider-Man suit and tells Peter that he has mishandled the responsibility. Without the Stark suit, Peter returns to school life and stops pursuing Toomes. He asks Liz to the homecoming dance, and she accepts. May helps him prepare for the evening. When Peter arrives at Liz's house, Doris Toomes (Garcelle Beauvais) greets him, and Peter discovers that Adrian Toomes is Liz's father. During the drive to the dance, Toomes recognizes that Peter is Spider-Man by connecting Liz's comments about Peter's disappearances in Washington and at her party. After Liz exits the car at the school, Toomes threatens Peter and orders him not to interfere. At the dance, Peter realizes that Toomes plans to hijack the cargo plane carrying equipment from Avengers Tower to the Avengers' new upstate headquarters. Peter leaves Liz, puts on his original homemade Spider-Man suit, and prepares to pursue Toomes. Schultz ambushes him outside the school. Ned uses Peter's web shooter to help subdue Schultz, then supports Peter from the school computer lab as Peter heads to Toomes's base. Peter confronts Toomes in the warehouse. Toomes says he spared Peter because Peter saved Liz, but he refuses to abandon the hijacking. When Peter rejects him, Toomes uses his wings to destroy the building's supports and leaves Peter buried beneath the collapsed structure. Peter struggles under the rubble, then lifts the debris and escapes. Happy oversees the loading of Stark equipment onto the cargo plane. Toomes reaches the aircraft in flight and begins stealing the cargo. Peter attaches himself to the plane and enters the hold, where he fights Toomes among the containers. The struggle damages the aircraft, and Peter redirects it away from the city before it crashes near Coney Island. On the beach, Toomes continues trying to take a crate from the wreckage, even as his damaged flight suit becomes unstable. The equipment explodes. Peter pulls Toomes away from the blast, webs him to debris, and leaves the recovered cargo for the authorities. Police arrest Toomes. Liz tells Peter that she and her mother are moving away after her father's arrest. Michelle becomes captain of the academic decathlon team and tells the group that her friends call her MJ. Happy brings Peter to the Avengers facility, where Stark offers him a full-time place on the team and presents a new Spider-Man suit. Pepper Potts (Gwyneth Paltrow) waits nearby with reporters prepared for an announcement. Peter declines the offer and chooses to remain a neighborhood Spider-Man. Stark accepts the decision and later sends the advanced suit back to Peter through Happy. In his apartment, Peter puts on the suit, and May walks in and sees him wearing it. During the credits, Gargan approaches Toomes in prison. Gargan says he has heard that Toomes knows Spider-Man's real identity and says other inmates want Spider-Man dead. Toomes denies knowing the identity and leaves it unrevealed. After the credits, Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) appears in a public service announcement about patience and acknowledges that patience does not always bring the expected result.
