At 23, Vera is cheerful, carefree, and still figuring out what to do with her life – until an accident outside a nightclub splits it in two: "before" and "after." Waking up in hospital with one leg amputated, she no longer fits into the world she left behind, and must learn to trust her own body again. Then she meets Xander, a provocative, magnetic young man who has used a wheelchair since birth and leads a tight-knit group that has long stopped expecting anything from the "normal" world.
