At the end of the 19th century a Catholic pastor and religious teacher confiscated the book Lausbubengeschichten from Ludwig Thoma in his class from one of his students. Bavaria, 1886: Latin pupil Ludwig, son of the deceased forester Thoma, has a lot on his mind. The twelve-year-old rascal defends himself against the unpleasant world of adults with daring ideas. For example, he takes a swipe at a snooty Prussian privy councilor by playing "ship sinking" with his son Arthur using live ammunition. The brat also gets up to mischief with the sanctimonious religious teacher Falkenberg, known as Pastor "Kindlein", and the eternally nagging Aunt Frieda. After he has overstepped the mark, the overburdened mother Thoma places her son in the care of the strict teacher Semmelmaier. The retired captain has already given many a difficult boy a hard time, but with Ludwig, the child's terror experiences a blue miracle. In the end, his famous namesake, King Ludwig II, appears to Ludwig in a dream to award his exemplary subject the Bavarian Medal of Valor for his tireless fight against arrogance, intolerance, hypocrisy, hypocrisy and pompous authority.
