Their uncle has died and has left her half a million pounds provided she agrees to return to civilization. A professional hunter, Captain Fry, quickly agrees to escort them to the escarpment where rumor has it there there lives a great white ape. He's intrigued when told that the great white ape is likely Tarzan and his plan is to capture him and put him on display. When they all find each other, Jane agrees to return to London if only to ensure that her cousins get their late uncle's wealth. Fry manipulates Tarzan into believing that Jane will never return only to trap him. When Jane and the others are taken prisoner by warring tribesmen, it's left to Tarzan to rescue them. —garykmcd Intent on bringing Jane back to civilisation to settle the urgent matter of a lucrative inheritance, British cousins, Eric and Rita, enlist the help of the seasoned local hunter, Captain John Fry, to lead them to her home in the jungle. However--under the pretence of joining a wild African safari--Fry's ulterior motive is much more sinister, as he wishes to capture the area's elusive "White Ape", rumoured to dwell somewhere in the sacred Mutia escarpment. The expedition's treacherous leader will stop at nothing to see his rarest specimen, Tarzan, inside a sturdy duraluminum cage; nevertheless, will he get away with deception? —Nick Riganas Jane's (Maureen O'Sullivan) two cousins, Eric and Rita, arrive in Africa to tell Jane about a fortune left to her back in their world and to try to convince her to return with them. They are led to Tarzan's escarpment home by Captain Fry (John Buckler), a hunter with an agenda of his own. Jane convinces Tarzan (Johnny Weissmuller) to let her go back with Eric (William Henry) and Rita (Benita Hume), promising that their separation will only be temporary. But Captain Fry (unknown to the others) attempts to capture Tarzan to take him back to civilization so he can be put on public display. By lying to Tarzan that Jane will never return and she planned his capture, Fry actually succeeds in caging Tarzan. Fry's treachery includes making a deal with an unfriendly native tribe to give him food, canoes and protection for the journey back in exchange for his handing over Jane, Eric and Rita for "ju-ju" and taking away the greatest "ju-ju" - Tarzan. Fry's plan goes wrong when the natives capture his party with all four white people are taken prisoner. While tied to trees, they watch an expedition helper be torn limb from limb. Tarzan manages to escape with the help of an elephant herd and Cheeta (Cheetah) and guides what's left of Fry's party through a cave passage filled with treacherous quicksands. Just before they exit the caves to safety, Tarzan forces Fry to go back the way they came as punishment for his betrayal. Fry starts to go back, then seizes a heavy branch to attack Tarzan, but before he can exit the cave he falls into a quicksand bog (filled with "poisonous" iguanas) and is swallowed up. Rita and Eric tell Jane that it is not really necessary for her to return with them, and that she belongs there with Tarzan. She realizes Tarzan has already walked away and the film ends with their joyous reunion of,Tarzan with Jane at their tree house.
