The HTFGuy's Character Elimination Movie
Condor Canyon dives deep into the lives of three mating pairs of California condors among others, documenting their struggles against natural and man-made threats in the rugged terrains of Big Sur, California. This film narrates their fight against wildfires, lead poisoning, and the heartbreaking challenges of reproduction influenced by the pesticide, DDT. A California condor living in Big Sur, California named "Traveler" survives lead poisoning while her mate, "Shadow" raises their chick in her absence. Shadow, tagged as Yellow 9, must balance his time caring for their chick while also remaining alpha of the flock. It is a tremendous duty that helps to maintain order and avoid conflict. Lead poisoning is the leading cause of death in wild condors, which occurs when feeding on carcasses shot with lead bullets left behind in the field. Excessive mortality, above all else, is the reason for the condor's near extinction but conservationists are working hard to recover the condor back to the wild, free of human intervention. Traveler, tagged as Red 71, has also struggled to lay normal eggs throughout her life due to the past use of the pesticide DDT. Both contaminants are found in the food condors eat. Finally, successful, she and her mate, Shadow, were raising a chick together when she ingested lead from a carcass tainted with lead ammunition. Conservationists rush to capture and treat Traveler at the zoo and she was re-released to the wild. Miraculously, both Traveler and the chick survive and are reunited. A true story.
