This is the story of Caimanes, narrated in the first person, a community that went from being a small self-sustaining town in the inner Andes, to becoming an emblem of resistance against predatory mining in Chile. Once upon a time there was a town in the inner Andes, where everyone spoke to each other and lived in community, organizing them self to obtain drinking water and electricity without the help of any government. But one day, the head of the valley was bought by a large mining company to dispose of the toxic material that its operations produce. 17 inhabitants of Caimanes tell what the paradise they lived in was like, how they were deceived, how they ran out of water and how greed and betrayal settled among them. How their valley was killed and how community life ceased to exist. This is a story of a small community that stood before a giant, this is a story that shows how economic power always wins in a country like Chile.
