The Lost Cache
Dubbed in : English ( Original )
In 1937, Bradford Washburn left gear—and his Fairchild camera—on the Walsh Glacier. Decades later, skier Griffin Post and glaciologist Dora Medrzycka lead an expedition to find their lost cache and uncover what still lies beneath the ice. In 1937, legendary mountaineer, photographer and cartographer Bradford Washburn made the first ascent of Mount Lucania—an epic story of survival in its own right. In the process, however, he was forced to abandon a large cache of gear on the Walsh Glacier, including his cherished large-format Fairchild F-8 aerial camera. While the iconic lensmen always planned to return for his gear, a recovery mission never materialized and the cache was presumably lost to one of countless crevasses that pepper the icefield. Over 80 years later, a modern expedition of skiers, scientists, and explorers sets out to examine a question that seemingly nagged Washburn throughout his life: what if these treasures are still there? Led by skier Griffin Post, and aided by glaciologist Dora Medrzycka, the team enters one of the most remote and dynamic landscapes on Earth, where surging glaciers, climate science, and the weight of history blur the line between possibility and improbability. As the expedition unfolds, the search becomes something more than a treasure hunt. It becomes a reflection on obsession, risk, and the enduring power of ideas—how a single question can persist across generations, bringing together unlikely collaborators in pursuit of the universally-relatable curiosity of finding something that was lost. Set against the vast, moving glaciers of the Yukon, this is a story about what drives us to attempt the improbable—and why, even with few guarantees, some questions are still worth chasing.
