The Posho Hunt
In 2006, during the Battle of Ramadi, Navy SEAL platoon Alpha One takes control of a local house under the cover of darkness. The house they select already had residents in it, and they are woken up and pushed to one corner of the house. Upon discovering that the upper floor is a separate apartment, they breach a wall to gain entry. The family upstairs was sleeping peacefully and were terrified when the US Navy SEAL soldiers broke through a wall to barge into their home and completely took it over, while relegating the family living there to one side. JTAC communications officer Ray Mendoza (D'Pharaoh Woon-A-Tai) coordinates air support to monitor their position while sniper and medic Elliott Miller (Cosmo Jarvis) monitors a market across the street. They are providing over-watch in support of a US Marines operation. The SEAL sniper can already see many potential hostile entities looking at the house that they are in, indicating that the locals are very well aware of their presence. The unit has nothing to do but wait for the action to get underway. So, there is a lot of sitting around and doing nothing. Translators Farid (Nathan Altai) and Noor (Donya Hussen) learn of different families on the two floors of the building and tell them to remain in place. Ray and Elliott observe increased activity, and air support leaves the area to support another unit which had come under enemy fire. ANGLICO LT McDonald (Michael Gandolfini) radios for air assets while the translators warn that the enemy has broadcast a call to arms. Leading Officer in Charge Erik (Will Poulter) assigns the translators to guard the lower level of the building. The Americans continue to monitor the locals and their activities, as they are clearly building towards something. A grenade is thrown into the sniper's room, injuring Elliott, while Tommy (Kit Connor) a gunner, and Frank (Taylor John Smith) a sniper, suffer concussions. A CASEVAC is called to evacuate Elliott. A Bradley is launched to their position to evacuate Elliott and is 1 Kms away. The M2 Bradley, is an American infantry fighting vehicle that is a member of the Bradley Fighting Vehicle family. The Bradley is designed for reconnaissance and to transport a nine-man rifle squad, providing them protection from small arms fire, while providing firepower to both suppress and eliminate most threats to friendly infantry. In preparation, the team gather their weapons and blow Claymore mines. The plan is to evacuate Elliot and then return to the house to continue the mission. Through dense smoke, the Iraqi translators lead Elliott, Sam, Tommy and Erik out to the waiting M2 Bradley. As its ramp drops, an IED is detonated, killing one of their translators, Farid, and wounding Elliott and Leading Petty Officer Sam (Joseph Quinn). The Bradley, also sustaining casualties, withdraws. All the members of the unit are shaken badly and some are even concussed. It takes all of them a while to process what just happened and to map out their next steps. Alpha One falls back and reorganizes in the house. Inside, they tend to Sam and Elliott, both seriously wounded, with Elliott knocked unconscious. Sam looked to have a deep leg injury as he could not move his legs and was in immense pain when he was being dragged across the floor to 2 rooms deep inside the house. Ray maintains pressure on Sam's leg wound so that he does not bleed to death. Sam has a huge gash on his thigh that goes all the way up to his groin. Erik calls Alpha Two to redeploy urgently into their position, but their advance is delayed by firefights in the street. Air support returns, but because enemy fighters are so close to Alpha One's position, McDonald can only coordinate a show of force. Ray determines Sam requires a tourniquet but is unable to apply it due to his shaking hands. Instead, he places his knee on Sam's wound, increasing Sam's agony. Ray dissociates. Erik steps in to apply the tourniquet. Elliott regains consciousness and screams in pain as McDonald tends to his injuries. Elliott directs McDonald to the morphine in his bag, which is finally administered to Elliott and Sam. McDonald makes a mistake and stabs himself with the morphine injection but quickly recovers from it. Alpha Two and the third element reach Alpha One's building. Erik, severely disoriented, surrenders his leadership to Alpha Two leader, Jake (Charles Melton). Jake takes operational control over both units and posts 2 soldiers on the 1st floor, in case the insurgents try to attack from there. Alpha Two determines that Elliot was hit with a Phosphorus based weapon, which has now gotten into all his wounds. Jake's request for medical evacuation is denied for fear of another IED attack. He orders his communications officer, John (Finn Bennett), to impersonate the army commanding officer to approve their evacuation. Meanwhile the roof of the house comes under severe attack from insurgents from across the street. The soldiers posted there are forced to fall back as they cannot hold their positions. Gear is retrieved from the street before Elliott and Sam are loaded into a Bradley each. The 2 Bradleys then roll away from the combat zone. The team returns to the house with insurgents converging on their position. Believing they might have infiltrated the second floor from the roof, Jake orders two other Bradleys to take out the top deck of their building. The Bradleys roll up to the building and fire on the second floor, which are indeed full of insurgents who were getting ready to invade the first floor. Under the cover of another show of force, Alpha One and Alpha Two are extracted by the Bradleys and leave the neighborhood under heavy small arms fire. The families in the house slowly emerge from their rooms, realizing the soldiers have left. The surviving insurgents cautiously gather in the street and study the remains of Farid. The film ends on the title card: For Elliott. Before the end credits roll, the real SEAL Team 5 involved in the mission are shown participating in the production of the film.
