In a small village nestled in the mountainous region of the Peloponnese peninsula, shortly after the Revolution of 1821 against the oppressive Ottoman Empire, Liakos Bournovas, a humble farmhand, dares to fall in love with Fotini, the beautiful sister of Panagis Notaras, a haughty local landlord. As forbidden desires, prejudice, and thoughtless discrimination further complicate matters, notorious bandit Captain Arvanitis and his brutal henchmen enter the equation, adding fuel to the fire.
