A North East college freshman is going through a sexual dry spell, and a friend from high school arranges a beautiful woman for him to meet in California. He and a classmate he has a crush on end up hitchhiking all the way out to Cali. College freshman Walter (Gib) Gibson decides to go cross country to visit his friend in California during winter break. Awaiting there is a bikini-clad babe whom his friend assures him is a "sure thing". Meanwhile, Allison, a cute (but somewhat retentive) girl at Gib's college has also decided to head out to Cal. to see her boyfriend during break. Gib and Allison are thrust together on a road trip from hell, and somewhere along the way, they find each others company to be tolerable. Now, what will become of Gib's "sure thing?" —anonymous Fed up with being invisible to the opposite sex, Walter, an insecure college freshman and unsuccessful teenage Casanova, is prepared to travel 3,000 miles to meet "the sure thing". As a result, encouraged by his California buddy's reassurance that there will be no strings attached, Walter gets ready to find the promised beach goddess waiting for him in Los Angeles. After all, he had always dreamed of having a girl like that. However, Walter must first share a cross-country ride with Alison, his brainy classmate, to save money.
