A Polish telephone company closes its gates. One last task remains to be done: The deassembly of the public telephones belonging to the company. A worker (Krzysztof Kiersznowski) is assigned, but due to a drinking habit he needs a driver for the company's Chevy Blazer, which is an ex- convict (Eryk Lubos). The worker takes along the his wife (Halina Skoczynska) and drops her at her sister's; their marriage seems to be as over as the time of analog telephones. The journey to the various phone booths and lonely places in a seemingly lost countryside is accompagnied by lines out of a western novel. After the trip the worker parts with the driver and hope is nourished that the end of the old era turns into a new beginning of the couple.
