A Parisian teacher Charles (Philippe Torreton) is out on the roads of Kazakhstan, when he runs out of gas. He therefore starts walking on the endless and icy terrain in search of something, he's so determined to find. He meets Ulzhan (Ayanat Ksenbai), a young Kazakh native, when he buys a horse from her family, who decides to join him in his journey along with Shakuni (David Bennen). It is soon apparent that Charles is on the lookout for a gold mine in what is rumored to be holy ground.
